There has been a break in our defending circle. On December 1, 2021, William Harrold Jones died after battling illness. Bill had only been a member of our lodge for a short time but he was someone everyone liked talking to. For me, he was a friend, a confidant, and someone I enjoyed sharing stories with. If you are a long-time resident of the Vienna area, I am sure your paths crossed. I met Bill and his wife Judy more than 25 years ago. It hurts to know he has broken free of his earthly bonds. Bill, you will be so missed by so many.
Friends are a gift from God
They bring us joy and happiness
And help us in times of need
That's why I can truly say
How glad I am I had this friend
If you knew Bill please leave a message of support for him on the Dignity Memorial website.
Brothers and Sisters,
It is with a heavy heart that we tell you that Robert Mock has passed on Friday, November 12, 2021. Robert was a member for more than 50 years. He was our go-to guy for many things back in the day. You would never meet a kinder humbler soul than him. It hurts to know that he has left this world too soon. We pray for his family in their time of need.
If we get updates, we will update this article with more information. If a member has a photo that Robert and would like to share for inclusion in this article please contact us. Again, we ask that you pray for his family.
Our dear brother Stephen Peal received his heavenly reward on Monday, August 30, 2021. Stephen was born on December 31, 1975. He has been a member of our lodge for many years and helped this last year by volunteering to help cook during the pandemic. People that knew him enjoyed his calm demeanor and unique laugh. Brother, we hope you finally found the peace that you often sought. You will be dearly missed.
We are unaware of any funeral arrangements at this time. If we receive information we will pass it on.
Brothers and Sisters,
It is with a heavy heart that we inform you that brother John Roughton has passed on January 29, 2021. As John was our Lodge’s Governor from 2016 – 2017, many of us have fond memories of him at our lodge. It hurts to know that John has left this world too soon. We pray for his family in their time of need.
The Centreville Moose at 3529 Chain Bridge Road is holding a Celebration of Life on March 13, 2021, from 2:00 pm to 7:00 pm. They invite all members to celebrate the life of John (FootPeg) Roughton. This will be a cash bar event, and the food is provided by the Centreville Moose Lodge.
Again, we ask that you pray for his family and friends.
C.M. Bunky Clark Jr. our Governor sent in his last Loyal Order of Moose application on the morning of December 11th, 2020. Anyone that knew Bunky knows that this could be the truth. It is with deep sadness and a heavy heart to report a break in our Defending Circle that Brother Bunky Clark passed suddenly this morning at home.
Bunky was born on April 23, 1946. Bunky joined the Moose in March of 1990. He has held the highest fraternal offices in our Vienna Lodge #1896, the Bull Run Moose Legion #185, and in the Virginia Moose Association’s District 4. He also held the positions of Moose Legion Ambassador for Northern Virginia and Governor of the Moose Legion Ritual team. Bunky attained his Fellowship degree in July of 2002 and his Pilgrim Degree in May of 2009. He was a mainstay of so many different Virginia and Moose International conventions and Moose Legion team ritual events over the years. To say he loved the Moose doesn’t quite adequately describe his devotion to the Moose. Bunky was a member that when asked always gave of himself.
Bunky you will be so missed; Good Night Brother Governor.
Updated 12/12/2020: To all of Bunky’s friends, family, and extended family members,
We want to let you all know that Maureen wants to wait for a Celebration of Life. With the current pandemic conditions, she wants to wait until it is safe to gather so she can hug each and every one of you. She thinks Bunky would want this. She is planning a church celebration at the Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church with a reception at the Vienna Moose for all to attend. She asks that we all wait to send flowers until we can all get together again. She will let us know a date in the future. Thank you all for your understanding.
Brothers and Sisters,
It is with a heavy heart that we tell you that Kent Caldwell has passed on October 27, 2019. Many of us have fond memories of him and Heather at our lodge. It hurts to know that Kent has left this world too soon. We pray for his family in their time of need.
A celebration of life has been planned for Saturday, November 9, 2019, at 3:00 pm at the Vienna American Legion Dyer-Gunnell post #180. The address for the post is 330 Center St N, Vienna, VA 22180.
If we get updates, we will update this article with more information. Again, we ask that you pray for his family.
Brothers and Sisters,
There has been a break in our defending circle. Since our last meeting, our lives have been diminished by the loss of our brother Jerry Hunt on June 9th, 2019. Jerry’s passing leaves our ranks emptier, but our memories richer.
Jerry was born on January 4th, 1943 and became a loyal member on December 1st, 1968. He became a Moose Legion member on August 15th, 1970, a Fellow of the Order on September 3rd, 1978, and was bestowed the highest honor of our fraternity the Pilgrim degree of service on July 1st, 1989. He was our Lodge Governor in 1975 and was a life member.
There are so many good things to say about Jerry. He was a husband to Janis, a father to Chris and Tanya. He had a nephew David. But most of all, we will remember him as a great friend and a Loyal Moose. Please keep him and his family in your thoughts and hearts as they go through this tough time.
Jerry, our thoughts and prayers are with you. You will be dearly missed.
Jerry's Obituary can be found here.

It is always sad to announce about a brother or sister who has left us. This week has been troublesome for our lodge. I am sad to announce that a long-time member Paul Behneman died on Friday, October 12, 2018, from complications due to cancer. I know many of you were good friends to Paul. We thank everyone that attended Paul’s fundraiser on July 21, 2018. I know Paul and his family really appreciated the support. I hope you keep him and his family in your prayers in their time of need.

It is with sadness and a heavy heart that I announce that Karl Berman died on August 12, 2018, at home. Karl was a member of the Moose Fraternity for many years before becoming a member here at Vienna. It hurts to say our defending circle is once again broken. Karl had been very frail the months before his death. He leaves his sisters Alisha and Barbara, his father, and many friends who attended school at Oakton Elementary, Oakton High School.
Karl my brother, you will be dearly missed.
We will be celebrating Karl's life with family and friends on Saturday, September 8, 2018, starting at 2:00 pm here at the Vienna lodge.
